Cape Town Police Officer Ngangaphila Samagaca Appears in Court After Allegedly Kidnapping and Torturing Men

CAPE TOWN - A 27-year-old police officer is facing numerous charges for allegedly kidnapping and torturing two men in Philippi East.

Constable Ngangaphila Samagaca appeared in the Bellville Magistrate's Court on Thursday, 2 February. He is also accused of being part of a gang.

The Table Bay harbour police officer was arrested in a multi-agency operation on Tuesday, 24 January. During the operation, Luvuyo Lwabi, Nicodimus Pasapanodya and Andrew Seko were also nabbed.

Hawks spokesperson Zinzi Hani told News24 the other suspects appeared in court following their arrest. They were all remanded into custody.

Cop among those suspected of torturing 2 men

The gang allegedly kidnapped two brothers from their home and made off with their Ford Ranger. The vehicle was later found at an informal settlement near Faure Drive.

Hani said that the victims had to be taken to hospital for treatment as they were badly injured. According to The Daily Sun, the accused are facing charges of kidnapping, robbery with aggravating circumstances and assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

Police officer and 5 others nabbed with suspected hijacked vehicle and cooking oil worth R1.3 million

Briefly News also reported that a police officer was among six arrested for possessing alleged stolen vehicles and cooking oil worth R1.3 million in eMalahleni.

The arrest came after police traced a highjacked truck to a property in Clewer, eMalahleni. Upon investigation, a vehicle and two trailers were found on the property. The six suspects, including the 43-year-old officer linked to the Vosman police station, attempted to flee but were caught.

Brigadier Selvy Mohlala told News24 that the trailers were loaded with cooking oil with a value of about R1.3 million. Police investigations are continuing to establish if the suspects are linked to similar crimes. The six are expected to appear in the eMalahleni Magistrate's Court.
