Fans couldn't help but notice the unusual moniker Diaz and Madden gave to the new addition to their family. Does the name Raddix have any special meaning?

Diaz and Madden haven't commented on the uncommon name they gave to their baby. According to Vice, the word "raddix" doesn't appear in the dictionary, although it is the name of a Texas-based EDM singer, a South African insurance company, and a character in the book Moonkind: Survivors of Ebola. It seems fairly unlikely that Raddix got her name from any of these sources, although anything is possible. 

Radix with a singular "d" is derived from the Latin word for "root." In math, it refers to "a number taken as the base of a system of numbers, logarithms, or the like," (via Dictionary.com), while in anatomy and botany it can means "a root; radicle." When it comes to family, roots are important, and perhaps this plays into the meaning of their new daughter's moniker.

Given the potential meanings of Raddix, however, it seems most likely that Cameron Diaz and Benji Madden simply wanted to pick something hip and catchy, possibly playing up the double letters in each name. It may not have a meaning that we know of, but Raddix Madden certainly has a nice ring to it!
